What is Dental Bonding?

Dental Bonding

Before and after dental bonding

Dental bonding is a procedure in which Dr. Warren will apply a tooth-colored dental resin to correct minor flaws in your teeth, such as chips, cracks or small gaps. The material used in dental bonding is the same that is used for tooth-colored fillings and is directly applied to your teeth. It is then molded into shape and hardened using a special curing light. After any finishing touches, the bonding will be polished to achieve an aesthetic sheen that blends in perfectly with the rest of your teeth.

Dental bonding is a relatively fast and easy procedure that requires only one visit.

Dr. Warren is experienced with dental bonding and uses it often, especially in cases where there is a minimal amount of repair needed. He may also use dental bonding for minor cosmetic work, such as covering any discoloration of your teeth or making small changes to their shape or size.

What Conditions Can Dental Bonding Fix?

Dental bonding can be appropriate for:

  • Adding length to your teeth
  • Changing the shape of your teeth
  • Whitening discolored teeth
  • Closing gaps between your teeth
  • Making your teeth look bigger
  • Making your teeth look more even
  • Repairing cracks or chips
  • Protecting your tooth when gums have receded
  • Filling cavities

Dental Bonding vs. Veneers

Dr. Warren considers dental bonding to be a good solution for short-term fixes. However, it has several disadvantages when compared with porcelain veneers in the long-term.

The dental resin used in bonding is somewhat fragile, and it can discolor over time. It also tends to lose its luster and responds poorly to polishing.

Our porcelain veneers are made of a strong, layered porcelain that looks beautifully natural, and they respond well to cleaning and polishing, just like your natural teeth. Veneers are an excellent long-term solution if you are not completely happy with the appearance of your teeth.
